Al menos 19 muertos en un ataque en oeste de Níger

Al menos 19 personas murieron y dos resultaron heridas en un ataque de supuestos yihadistas contra una aldea de la región de Tillabéri, en el oeste de Níger, dijo este sábado el ministerio del Interior.

«El ataque fue dirigido a civiles cuando concluían sus oraciones» vespertinas, dijo el ministerio en un comunicado leído en la radio pública, reseñó AFP.

Señaló que el ataque fue realizado el viernes en horas de la noche en la aldea de Theim, región de Tillabéri, «por individuos armados que llegaron a pie y no han sido identificados».

El saldo del ataque fue de 19 muertos y dos heridos, precisó el comunicado del ministerio.

Horas antes, un cargo local dijo que había 17 muertos, mientras que un poblador de la zona indicó que alrededor de 10 personas habían fallecido en el ataque.

La región de Tillabéri, en la llamada zona de «las tres fronteras» entre Níger, Burkina Faso y Malí, es escenario frecuente de la violencia de grupos yihadistas afiliados a Al Qaida y Estado Islámico.

Al menos 37 civiles fueron asesinados a mediados de agosto en la aldea de Darey-Daye, también en la región de Tillabéri.

Human Rights Watch (HRW) estimó la semana pasada que más de 420 civiles habían muerto desde principios de año en el oeste de Níger en ataques de grupos yihadistas, que también han obligado a decenas de miles de personas a huir de sus hogares. La cifra sobrepasa ahora los 450.

El sudeste de Níger también debe enfrentar las atrocidades de los yihadistas de Boko Haram y de Estado Islámico de África del Oeste (Iswap).
