Las fuertes lluvias que por estos días azotan el noreste de Brasil han dejado al menos 18 muertos, 286 heridos y 2 desaparecidos. Además de unos 16 mil damnificados, solo en el estado de Bahía, según el reporte de este lunes de las autoridades regionales.
El Gobierno de Bahía, con datos de la Superintendencia de Protección y la Defensa Civil local, indicó que 19 mil 580 personas tuvieron que dejar sus casas. De las cuales 16.001 perdieron sus viviendas, teniendo que ser alojadas provisionalmente en coliseos y campamentos.
La ciudad más afectada ha sido la turística Ilheus, en el litoral sur de Bahía. Esta concentra la mayor parte de las 430 mil 869 personas que de una u otra forma se han visto afectadas. No solo por la destrucción de casas y negocios, sino también por su aislamiento, sin poder moverse o recibir víveres y medicamentos.
En Bahía 72 municipios se declararon en estado de emergencia por las lluvias.
De las 72 ciudades en estado de emergencia, 58 de ellas también se encuentran en «situación de crisis» por las dificultades de abastecimiento y acceso.
En el vecino estado de Pernambuco, la ciudad más afectada es Petrolina.
El Gobierno federal y las autoridades locales han tenido que utilizar, además de helicópteros, lanchas para rescatar a las personas que se han quedado aisladas, entre ellas una anciana de 102 años en el municipio de Itabauna, en Bahía.
