El presidente de la Academia Nacional de Medicina, Enrique López Loyo, aseguró que actualmente la cobertura de vacunación contra el COVID-19 en Venezuela no llega a 5 %.
En entrevista a circuito Éxitos explicó que con el ritmo que está vacunando, la inmunización total de los ciudadanos podría tardar unos o dos años aproximadamente.
Al mismo tiempo, develó que a través del acuerdo con Covax el país podrá acceder a más de diez millones de dosis de la vacuna AstraZeneca que permitirían inmunizar a 5.7 millones de venezolanos, lo que daría una cobertura de 38 % de la población.
Hemos recibido un lote de 200.000 vacunas de la Sputnik V que no alcanza para todo el personal sanitario y ahora el Ejecutivo se negó al uso de la vacuna de AstraZeneca con el cargamento listo que se esperaba que llegara a finales de abril”, indicó.
Para el presidente de la Academia Nacional de Medicina negar la vacuna de AstraZeneca podría parecer una estrategia política, porque no hay estudios suficientes que demuestren que está relacionada con el aumento de casos de trombosis, reseñó Tal Cual.
“En Venezuela hay varios problemas, primero que se tengan los recursos para adquirir las vacunas. Y segundo encontrar un proveedor seguro”, manifestó.
El experto apuntó que aunque Sputnik V se usó para vacunar a una parte del personal sanitario del país, aún faltarían más de la mitad de los trabajadores por recibir la inmunización.
En cuanto a la vacuna china Sinopharm, López Loyo comentó que no se tiene claro cómo ha sido el plan de vacunación. El Ejecutivo la ofreció al personal docente, pese a que en un inicio se dijo que sería para las personas mayores a 60 años.
