La Academia de Medicina de Venezuela le pidió este martes al Gobierno de Nicolás Maduro que no difunda «información carente de sustento científico» acerca del fármaco sin aval llamado Carvativir, desarrollado en el país caribeño, que el mandatario definió como «gotas milagrosas» contra la COVID-19.
«Hacemos un llamado al Gobierno nacional y a la población en general a no difundir información carente de sustento científico y a acatar las directrices emanadas de la (Organización Mundial de la Salud) OMS, ya que puede ser contraproducente, en una situación de pandemia, el generar falsa sensación de seguridad en una población vulnerable», reza un comunicado de la academia.
En este sentido, destacan la importancia de la responsabilidad en la difusión de la información contrastada «dado lo depauperado de la salud de los venezolanos».
El presidente venezolano inicialmente aseguró que el Carvativir «neutraliza al 100 %» el coronavirus, pero corrigió dos días después para decir que es únicamente «complementario» en tratamientos contra el virus SARS-COV-2, que causa la COVID-19, tras reconocer que sus declaraciones habían despertado «tremenda polémica».
El pasado 27 de enero, la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS) pidió que se publiquen los hallazgos sobre el Carvativir.
Frente a ello, la Academia de Medicina sostuvo esta martes que «no tiene conocimiento de estudio alguno, publicado en revistas científicas de prestigio, que demuestre científicamente la efectividad de este u otro tratamiento ‘natural’ para la enfermedad».
«Más aún, cuando además de ser un nuevo virus, no se tenía conocimiento ni experiencia en el manejo y tratamiento del mismo en Venezuela hasta antes del 13 de marzo de 2020, fecha de la aparición del COVID-19» en Venezuela, subraya el mensaje.
Por eso, concuerdan «con las recomendaciones de la OMS» que reconocen que, «aunque algunos remedios occidentales, tradicionales o caseros pueden proporcionar confort y aliviar los síntomas» de la enfermedad, hacen hincapié en que «no hay evidencia científica definitiva e irrefutable de que los medicamentos actuales puedan prevenir o curar la enfermedad».
La entidad, según recuerdan, «advirtió además que no se consuman medicamentos que no estén aprobados contra la COVID-19».
